Yeah, ranger's got it. No F350 crew cabs in the 4WD platform till the '80s or so. 1983? I don't give a rat's *** about the '80s trucks anyway.

Hey fellas, I'm just learning here. But does a guy really need a D60 unless he's using it for rock crawling? I have an F250 and was figuring the D44 was plenty strong enough.

It's the mentality. The D44 is excellent if you don't plan to do anything extreme like mud bogs or run 50-inch tires.

I'll eat my slice of humble pie then, i thought for sure Ford produced a F350 4x4 crew cab in 1979.

The D44 in the truck I am building was used as a snow plow. The springs are sacked and the axle will need to be gone through anyway. I figure if I can find a D60 I might as well go that route. The problem with finding one locally is that 90% were used as a ranch truck, they were actually used in 4wd. Sometimes left in 4wd-forgetting to turn out the hubs. Thanks again for everyon's help.

That's because the 4WD was only available on 150" wheelbase, aka Crew cab, short bed. Or chassis-cabs with the 150" wheelbase.

There are no long bed 4WDs, and as you pointed out, all long beds 4WDs were customs/hacks jobs.

Save the pie and try a chicken wing instead.

I posted facts from Ford and you still didn't want to believe there were no F-350 4x4 crewcabs. Having Jermafenser post something about it shouldn't of changed anything.

Fordrealdrive both of those pieces of literature state there is only one wheelbase, 150.3". The only way you could get a longbed crewcab was in an F-350 2wd version.

I just wanted a second opinion, now back to my chicken wings.

Jeez! a guy takes some time off and he misses all the fun!

My 77 crew has a lp d60...is a long bed, BUT it was stretched.
My 74 crew also had a lp d60...short bed.
My 78 crew has a hd 44...short bed

The '77 crew cab 4x4 long bed may have a Hp D60 up front and a D70 in the back if all goes as planned and I think I will get 400 badges for it, because it will be a heavy 1 ton...made by me, well actually modified by me!

There is no listing for an F-350 crewcab 4x4. If you want to see page 33 I'll scan it in but it is not relevant to this.

Next fact for you, page 26 from the official FORD MOTOR COMPANY Salesman's fact book:

Larger version: http://www.supermotors.net/registry/media/748216_1

Now what you'll notice on this page is that it only lists an F-250 crewcab 4x4, no F-350 4x4 crewcab.
And....if further proof is needed, there is no mention of a 1979 F350 4WD Crew Cab in the 1973/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog.

faxonautolit.com sells original salesman's fact books, sales brochures, owners and shop manuals, accessory brochures and a bunch of other related jazz for these trucks.

Probably be more reliable than a "bible" written by a freelance writer too.
