Another brake problem

When I hit the brakes they work fine but my pedal stays applied and I then have to pull it back up wih my foot. What could be a cause of this?

I`ve never had that happen but I will make a few guesses. Weak/broken pedal return spring, stiff pedal hinge/pivot, bad booster.

It's almost like my brakes are working too good. It barely takes any foot pressure to apply them.

I would think master cylinder would be the cause

That would point to a bad booster. With engine off push the brake pedal a few times to fill the booster with air, does the pedal now return without having to lift it?

Booster? maybe ... I thought the booster used vacuum to help when pressing the peddle not returning it.

My thoughts came from the memory of the last time I had to bench blead a Mastercylinder. Boy that was a **** to push the piston in...

WHo knows?

You could be right, I never had it happen. He says he replaced the booster so unless he got a bad one it rules that out.
And the master cylinder just bolts to the booster so cannot be fitted wrong.
So it could be sticking master cylinder piston, broken piston return spring. Had it been the booster it could have been stuck air valve or broken air valve spring, faulty check valve.
So looking more like the master cylinder?

Sounds like you have a sticking caliper or a bad flexi brake hose. However that would not cause the pedal return problem. And as it is only the one brake it is not a master cylinder problem.

When you pick the pedal up with your feet, or foot, or hand. Is there long pedal travel before you get good brake??
Or are the brakes being applied as normal

If there is a long pedal travel when peddle is pulled up,

Heres the problem with the pedal... It is common so.

When you replaced the booster, you should have got the booster cylinder combo. The adjustment between the booster and the cylinder has to be perfect. Your sounds like it is off.

I know enough to get the combo. It may also be the problem with the right brakes hanging up. You have to much space between the booster and the M-cylinder. The pedal stays at the bottom, because that is hwere your M-cylinder will only push it to, when you do push the brakes down, it only cycles the M-cylinder half way at the most. Oil isnt releiving.

Thats My Bet... You didnt have th eproblem before right??? just a hard pedal I am assuming causing the booster to be replaced

You have got to try to narrow the problem down. Unscrew the nuts holding the master cylinder to the booster and without undoing the pipes slide the master cylinder forward. Without starting the engine does the pedal now return after pushing it down to about where you were getting a brake? If it does not then the problem is in the pedal pivot or the pedal return spring or stiff bushing in the pedal to actuating rod or interferance where the rod goes thru the firewall.
