We just bought a new travel trailer. It's pretty big and when we got done towing it home not really sure what happened. I had it parked out on the side of the road for about 5 min.(running) while we unloaded some stuff. Then I backed the camper into it's spot beside the garage. Had to jockey back and forth a few times to get it right where I wanted it. When I finally got done I shut off the truck and hopped out and there was a very large puddle of tranny fluid on the road where I was backing in at. Probabl 2' across.
Then as I looked under the expy (not running) there was tranny fluid running out of it. It looked like it was coming from in between the bell housing and the engine. Not sure if it was coming out of there or running down from the top and running off there. As I looked at the camper it must have obviousley been leaking oil for a while because there is a light mist of red oil all over the camper.
Not really sure what the problem is? Do you think the tranny just got hot and boiled over or do you think I'm into a more serious repair? Cracked torque convertor, blown front seal on tranny? Any ideas would be great!!!
It's an 01' Expy 4x4 5.4l. It was a pretty good tug for it all the way home we were running about 60-70 mph on the interstate for about 3-3.5 hours with it.
Well had a chance this afternoon to run to the store and get some tranny fluid. Started filling up and driving to get it to the right level and never leaked a drop. Drove it around for about 1.5 hours finally got it full. Lost about 4.5 qts.
I'm ordering a big *** tranny cooler tomorrow so hopefully I never have to worry about this again!
