New Tires

Hey guys i had a thread about this a while ago but i am still not sure about what i should do. I need to buy new tires for my dually. I currently have the stock tires on there which are 235/85/16. I am looking to go a little wider and taller. I am looking at either a 255/85/16 or 265/75/16. I plugged the numbers into the calculator that someone supplied me in the last thread about this that i posted and came up with that the 255/85/16's are taller but not to much wider and the 265/75/16's are wider but not much taller. I prefer them to be a little taller so i think the 255's are my best bet. Now am i correct in saying that these tires will fit on the stock rims? I am looking at going with these: http://www.onlinetires.com/products/...++n%252Fa.html

I like the look of the tread and they are not to expensive. With that tire, will they fit alright on the rim and will i have any clearance issues. I have the 2 inch leveling kit in the front. Thanks guys.

Matt I am in the same boat. I need a new set of tire's to and those look pretty nice $936.00 for 6 plus $185.00 S/H to me. Dang maybe I can get a couple more mile from mine. But I will bite the bullet soon.

Though this is just a survey that Tire Rack takes from it's customers, it might be worth a look when assessing new tires:

What is the reason that anyone wants to put a larger tire on a 2wd Dually (I have a '99 Dually)?? is it just cosmetics??
Be careful what ever tire you choose that they don't touch each other on the rears.....

To be honest, yes it is just cosmetics. It's not like i'm putting extremely big mud boggers on there. I'm going merely and inch taller, and not even an inch wider with a little more aggressive tread. I think it will give the truck a nice look.

So long as that "inch wider" does NOT allow the sidewalls to touch at any point when rolling, even when cornering hard.

Any evidence of them touching will bring on tire failure.

A big no-no.

Also consider the tire bulging when under a load, say 4,000 pounds of tongue weight shall you ever need to pull a trailer that heavy in your lifetime. I need to get some pictures up, but i just had new tires put on my work truck, the dually, and they look alot better than the stock 245/75r17 BFgayrich's, these are Hankook Dynapro AT-M's at 265-75r17

I'm not sure here, but if they are to wide and do rub, don't i have the option of buying wheel spacers, or is that not worth it....?

You sure wouldn't catch me putting spacers on a Dually considering the weight it might be carrying....
