I am planning on rebuilding the carb on my 79 F250 with a 300 six. it has a carter YFA 1bbl but the ID number on the carb is weird and I can't find a rebuild kit to match the number on the carb which is 7402S this number is all I have to go by because the previous owner must have had a rebuilt carb put on the truck. there was no stamped ID tag just a paper sticker that was unreadable other than rebuilt carbuerator. I was also wondering how do you tell if it is a feed back carbuerator or non feed back.
I am at the end of my rope with this engine. I don't know if someone has changed a bunch of stuff on this truck but I bought a the factory 79 ford truck service manuals on cd rom and nothing in these books matches what's on or in my truck. I know the vin code on the door is "B" which is a 300 six so this is the factory engine but nothing else seems to be.
Carter YF(A) carburetors have a 4-digit list number stamped on the carburetor body. There is no tag. Take this number to Napa, or a similar reputable store and have them look the number up in the books, and cross-reference the correct rebuild kit for you. The one-size-fits-all rebuild kits from Auto Zone won't help you.
Feedback carburetors have a lot of wiring running to them. A '79, if original, won't have a feedback carburetor.
