I have an 03 Ex with a 6.0 . It has a 6" lift and 35 x 12.5 nitto terra. I recently installed new u joints and have had the tires balanced on Ex. I have a mojor vibration when I exceed 60 mph. By the time I reach 70 mph the truck feels that it may shake apart. Any ideas what it may be, where i should start. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'd start with the cheap stuff myself. If you have a protractor, you can build an angle gauge with a string and weight. Measure out the driveshaft angles. I think it goes one ujoint per end angles are complimentary(adding up to 180 degrees) and if you have a CV (or two ujoints on one end) the angles should be equal. I'm not real sure about dual shafts and carrier bearings, but I'm sure it's available on line.
Then I would have the tires road forced balanced. With roll out and weight on the tires they could be acting up differently than when they are balanced on a normal machine. This would also make my next big step having the shafts balanced.
Do you have a DISCOUNT TIRE CO. store near you. To my knowledge, they are the only major tire store chain left that still equipps their stores with a "tire knife". That is a device for "truing" the tire's outer diameter to the wheel center. You can get an "out-of-round" tire PERFECTLY balanced and still have horrendous vibration of the kind you describe.
Modern radial tire technology being what it is today, I would be surprised if that is your problem, but if the other's advice to you on ruling out the drive shaft dosnt resolve it, that would be my next step.
