Starter compatiblity 351W

I understand that the AOD flexiplate is 164 tooth, the same as a standard 351W flywheel.
Can someone confirm this?

If so, is the same starter motor OK - depth of reach etc - when changing from AOD to a manual trans, on a 351W?

This present 351/AOD combination isn't original.

Thanks

I would look up the starter motors at www.rockauto or someplace like that. Look up the original configuration and see what starter part number it takes. Then look up a 302 with the AOD and see if the same starter fits.

Thanks Dave,

You can search various engines & years etc on their site, but not engine-trans combinations. But they do show the same part no. for all 302/351 manuals, & another no. for all 302/351 autos, so it looks like I will need another starter.

Also, is there a casting no. or some means of identifying a correct bellhousing for this 351W / NP435 combo. I know the transmission bolt pattern etc, but is that enough to be conclusive?
