Fix or Scrap help
As for the mechanic bill, I'm guessing shop labor is around 100 an hour, and they mark up the parts about 500%, still, 1450 is ludicrous!
The things wrong you listed could be done by anyone with mechanical ability in a matter of a few hours. Not trying to call you an idiot by any means, just saying you could sell it as is without any issues at all.
As for needing new springs..........hhahahahahahahhaah
I wish is was rust free. The pics are a bit deceiving. The hood has some rust which you can't really see in the pics and the bed has rust too.
I don't know what the shop was talking about either. He said that the reason that it needs new front springs is because when compressed the front wheel almost touches the wheel well. He was acting like it should have been obvious to me when I was driving the truck, but I've never had a problem with the front end. The ride is a hell of a lot smoother than my '06 Dodge Ram 1500. I figured that was because the shocks were in need of replacement, but I've never felt nor heard anything knocking or rubbing.
Last night I pulled out an old LMC catalog and was looking up the prices of the parts that were needed and I see what everyone is complaining about now. I figure that most of the cost must have been labor. Unfortunately, I'm not currently mechanically proficient with vehicles. I don't doubt that I could be, but I have no one in my area that I know that could help me out. I might try to find some old shop manuals and just do the work myself though. Would any special tools be needed? I've got all the basics (wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, hammers) I even happen to have a 1 ton floor jack and wheel blocks.
