Hey, Tony, I've got a '96 460 with the same setup as yours...I think...And if your truck is the same as mine, it already has an oil cooler. Look carefully-
That block with the plugs that the oil filter screws on to-
Does the lower radiator hose go to it? And is there a second short radiator hose going from the other side into the engine block?
If so, you've already got the Ford built-in engine oil cooler. You don't need another one. That oil filter mounting block contains an oil-to-water heat exchanger and the oil heat is removed by the flow of coolant through the block via the lower radiator hose. It's a slick setup.
I'm curious, let me know if that's what you've got.

So far all that is on the truck is the oil filter adapter. The place where the oil lines should be coming out are plugged. Remember, this is an '87 truck. I've thought of having a auxilarry oil cooler in front of the radiator and then possibly run part of the oil line through the tranny cooler area of the engines radiator as a oil preheater in the winter, and to insure the oil doesn't get too cool in the winter either. I guess I'll just have to take the oil filter adapter off and check what size hoses and what fittings should be used.

No, it's just the oil filter angle adapter. I think the later trucks like yours, had a different setup. I've seen that mid '80's Vans with 460s had a traditional air to oil radiator in front of the engines radiator and thus I think this is that style.
