Clockspring replacement

Fellas
Im looking for what vehicles have the same clockspring as an Aerostar. I gave the Dealer the part number and he wouldn't help (A%^hole). I'm trying to find one from a newer one than my 94. On my wife's Ranger and Mazda parts fix.
Thanks

I'm guessing Explorers of similar years would have the same clocksprings. They seem to share the same steering wheel, where the contacts are.

90-93 Ford Tauri had the same steering wheel so I would assume the clockspring would be the same, or close to it.

Two questions:

1) What is the part number?

2) What the hell is a clockspring?

I was a Ford partsman for 35 years, never heard of any such thing.

Am I being a wizeazz? No, because I'm the only FTE member (excepting the 3 FTE Ford dealer parts dept sponsors) that has the Ford parts catalogs that cover Aerostars, Rangers and etc.

I can look up whatever this thing is, then give you the info.

Your a parts guy? You never hear if it? Well the clockspring is the slip ring that is on the steering colum. That the wires are on for the horn, cruise, airbag to wire to the steering wheel.
That part name is right out of the ford,GM,BMW,etc parts books.

It's listed in Ford parts catalogs that way? How do you know that, have you got a parts catalog? Or are you only going by what someone told you?

You gave the dealer the part number, how about typing it here?

I'll tell you what vehicles used the same one, how many years it fits, and whatever the correct FoMoCo nomenclature is...because it isn't clockspring.

There are 117 different springs listed in the chassis parts catalog, none are refered to as a clockspring.

The only clock related anything is the clock itself (basic #15000) or the clock kit (basic #15A000).

btw: I just looked this puppy up. There are two: One type was used 1992/94, another 1995/97.

I didn't want to sound like an @ss but a parts guy not knowing the name of a part. I could see a young fella that works at a place like Canadian Tire,NAPA that just follow what the computer says.
Thanks for your help

Uh huh...yeah right, that'll be the day!! This works two ways, kiddo. Read on.
From the 1990/2002 FORD LIGHT TRUCK PARTS CATALOG / TEXT / SECTION 144, PAGE 189:

F3UZ14A664B .. CONTROL ASSY, AIR BAG

F3UZ14A664B replaced F39Z14A664A. Parts catalog says: When replacing with F3UZ-B, tape back unused connector.

Where oh where does the catalog say anything about a clockspring? No see um.

Since I typed the parts catalog reference above, you can visit your local dealer, look in his catalog and read the parts description for yourself. After all...seeing is believing.

And...if your local dealer is asking $132.30, you're getting the short end of the stick.

MSRP: $109.94 // FTE sponsor Y2KFORDPARTS.COM price: $92.35.

FTE sponsor: Y2KFORDPARTS.COM aka PARTSGUYED.COM = Ed Olson, Parts Manager @ MILLENNIUM FORD in Seattle WA.

btw: F3UZ14A664B also fits 1993/94 E150/350 (Econoline) with Speed Control. That's it.

btw, part II. FTE allows one hour for editing posts, so you don't have to type additional posts within this time frame to add info.

cdnsoldier,
go easy on our numberdummy. he was learning the Ford parts business before you were born. Model T's and 66 Lincoln Continental convertibles didn't have air bags in the steering wheel
he's a great help here on the forum and knows more about the Ford parts system than Ford does.

we all agree that Ford parts are a ripoff at the dealer. should try Cummins engine parts, fuel injectors $1000 each plus installation.

The dealer I went to on the computer with picture it had clockspring. It has it listed in the Haynes manuel also on many part sites. http://www.thepartsbin.com/sitemap/f...ing~parts.html

It is on all of our Military vehicle lesson plans. I believe it comes from the old setup, it was a roller type spring. That connected the horn to the steering wheel and would roll as you turned.

As for some dealers, I had to go to one in Fredricton Newbrunswick for a upper ball joint for my wifes 98 Explorer. This guy would not believe me when I told him, that it didn't have the full upper control arm, but the half that can be adjusted back and forth. I finally had to take off the da&n thing and bring it in. He told me it was only for the 99/00s. Then after he told me it must have been replaced, yea yea yea. which it never was.

It's not listed that way in my 1990/2002 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog, which happens to be on microfiche.

This catalog, as you can see, only goes thru 2002, so it's possible Ford has renamed the part in later versions.
