My coworker has an '08 Escape XLT with about 12k miles on it. She has told me that on several occasions when she has shifted from drive to reverse the car has stalled on her. It has restarted each time. Every time it has done this has been when she has been backing into her driveway.
I will be bringing the code-reader into work tonight to check codes but in the meantime, any ideas?
Is it still under warranty? If so, I'd just return it to the dealership.
If not, try these:
Has she tried changing gas stations/brands?
Has anyone disconnected the battery for fifteen or twenty minutes, and allowed the PCM to loose some piece of bad memory that might be affecting it's map? Remember, these PCMs "learn", and sometimes what they learn isn't the best for operation of the vehicle. By doing the reset/reboot, you would be having it return to it's factory presets.
I hear ya'. First thing I told her was about the warranty but being that is is extremely intermittent and she is a single lady who knows nothing about cars, the more ideas prior to hitting the dealership the better.
Thanks.
