Brake Dust

I'm getting allot of brake dust on the front rims, is this normal? 860 total miles, no hauling or towing.

yep, normal for the crappy Ford pads, been like this since 2004. Switch to some ceramic pads or other type of pads that produce less dust.

Personally, I've been using the Porterfiled carbon kevlar pads. I installed them on my 04 and now my 09, both when the trucks were new under 1000 miles. They were great on my 04, no dust at all. The new set I put on my 09, they are ok but start to show dust after 2 weeks or so, but still not as bad as the factory pads.

Typical Ford pads. I think why they make so much dust is to give better braking response and pedal feel. They must use really soft pads because you can spot a Ford just by looking at the front wheels.

Ceramic pads will have less dust but you will have less stopping power too.

Get Hawk pads.

I disagree that cermaic pads give you less stopping power.....they're worlds better on my 07 than my oem pads were both in stopping power and dusting....

Akebono pads are amazing pads with great performance, and virtually no dust....

well i like ebc pads the best, but on their web site and other website its saying the 04 to 08 is the same as the 09 which i don't think they are but i could be wrong. also i did read that brake dust come from the rotor it self and how they make the pad itself changes that

if it is the same i'm more then likey going to order pads and rotors

And grinding feeling. Soft pads equal lower noise, better stopping, more dust.

Maybe from cheap pads.....but i've had ceramic pads on two vehicles and can't tell a difference in feel, other than they bite better

Gm has started putting ceramic pads on most of its vehicles, and hate to say it....but gm has way better brake feel and bite than ford has for the last few years

So what we've discovered is you can't have cheap, high-performance, zero-dust, non-grinding pads. There's a shock.

Reminds me of an old saying... "good, fast, cheap - pick two".

According to Ford the 2010's have a improved braking system. New design brake booster for better pedal feel, larger rotors and different pad to reduce brake dust.

I still dont have any issue with brake dust. But i think every platinum truck is the same. It's either the rims dont attract it or we have different pads!
