Still trying to figure out a boat load on what I'm going to be doing here.
Anyone know the differences in actual frames from a half ton to a 2 ton?
I know things like the axles are larger and everything, but what about the actual frame?
Reason I ask is I'm trying to decide how to go about a few things with my truck. Most people swap out the 4x4 parts on the original frame, but I need to know what differences a F-600 would have over an F-100, if it adds a couple hundred pounds it would be better to just swap out the chassis. I'd be shortening up the original, but I'm curious as to what difference there is in steel with it.
The F-100 uses primarily about a 7 or 8 inch channel. The 600 uses a 9 inch channel. The Big Jobs use a 10 inch channel. They all have the front end form just within their respective sizes. The F-350 and I believe also the P's have a rear axle kick up (the frame goes up at the rear axle area) but are straight on top. The bigger trucks don't have a rear axle kick up, they are straight all the way back. The lighter frames are also a lighter gauge steel on the frame rails than the bigger trucks. Huge differences from the smalls to the bigs.
