As some of you have followed from my last thread, a lot of you have came to the conclusion that my pinion angle seemed a little high and needed to come down. I spoke to a guy today who was very knowledgeable about our trucks and lifts. He said just like you guys did, that the angle of the shaft coming out of the pinion was was too straight, and was putting all the pressure on the upper u-joint, and it was binding up when the truck was under load. He said the axle has a tendency to point upward so that explained why it was doing it only in 2nd gear. So he said tomorrow he was going to bring his angle finder with him to tell me what exactly I need to put in for a shim to correct the issue. I am very hopeful this fixes the problem.
Good Luck! I bet you cant wait to get your truck done! I was chasing a bad clunk in my truck for months. Replaced a transmission mount that was bad, tightened the pinion bolt that was loose, and replaced both U joints. After each repair it went away for a couple days then came back. When I pulled out the engine this weekend turns out the motor mounts were bad, even though I checked them first thing! Drove me nuts, cant wait to get my 351 in and take it for a spin.
After picking the truck up we talked about how the pinion could still come down. It still has a slight vibration in the same 15-25 mph zone depending when you apply the gas. But I think what I am willing to try is putting the same shim back in but in the reverse direction. I think that may help get all of the wrap out of the axle when its under full torque, that way I dont keep risking it binding up.
On a side note, all of a sudden my front wheel bearing or both are humming. Would the bigger rim and tire be do this or is it how the front axle is tiled slightly back now because of the shackle reversal kit? Is that causing pressure on the components have the axle leaning back. Do I need to shim the front axle up?
bigger tires put more stress on wheel bearings if they were stock they probably almost needed replaced and the tires did them in with a d60 you should be able to put a set in and have them last the life of the truck

never knew lifting my truck would cost so much. I really enjoyed my truk b4 all this money spending
haha i think a lot of ppl think that same thing we all love our truck but dont love the amount of money that really we waste on them cause they cant really give it back. oh well we all just keep spendin and keep truckin and that what makes the world go round
Haha so true. Well because of this ongoing problem of having a single cab truck that eats 6mpg I decided to buy a car today. Its 2005 Honda Accord. I figured this would help take my mental focus off my truck as a daily driver and just let it be what it really is and stop trying to make it something different. I figured putting $12,000 towards something that is actually driveable might make more sense then dropping $12000 into something that I could crash and lose it all.
