I was wondering if anyone knew the benefit of the Tri-Power setup versus the dual quad or single four barrel setup. Im just curious, really. ive seen a bunch of different setups and i really dont know anything about them. Ive heard that the tri-power setup is a kind of gas saver at low rpm, and beleive you me that is of interest. any input would be appreciated.
Well, anything other then a 2bbl will enable rapid fuel consumption LOL!!
There is a fellow on an "FE" forum that has run dyno tests on a mule engine with a varied assortment of intakes. Can't say I read much of the information, though I'm sure it would be interesting if you in the works of deciding on what you wanted to run.
The tripower is a good dual purpose intake and I would bet give you the best of both worlds, power and economy(and "looks" too). Depending on which quad intake you run, the power band would move around, but as long as you tuned the linkage in, I bet mileage would be decent also. IE: 428Cj motor in my '69 F100(pretty stock, med riser 2x4, 600 Holleys, 3.25 gears/4 spd) with progressive linkage it got 18mpg on the highway. It just putzd along with plenty of power when needed. I've since upped it and made it a hot rod and mileage now is in the single digits(bigger cam, 4.56 gears, solid carb linkage).
18 mpg with a dual quad setup on a 428? ive got a 390 with a eddy 650, 4spd and dana 60 and i only make 11.5 on the highway IF ive got a tailwind and im only doin 60. So jealous. Thanks for the input, though.
