The cat is the second biggest problem in the stock exhaust. The down pipe (the piece the come directly from the turbo to the frame rail) is the biggest. If you look at the stock one youll see that it is bent and hard to get it to fit the way the factory did it, and its nearly flattened out at the bend. So a good down pipe and removing the cat will be the biggets gain in sound performance and fuel mileage. Bigger pipe doesent hurt either most upgrade to a 4" or better. That combined with changing you air intake to some sort of CAI (Cold Air Intake- the 6637 is the most common here) will do the most for you, ouside of buying lots more stuff.

I cut the CAT and muffler out putting in place a length of pipe the same factory diameter. At the same time I installed a down pipe.

You here the turbo alot more at low rpm but with myself at high RPM the exhaust has a little to much bark. If I would do it over again I would have kept the muffler in the truck, I still have the muffler and have not put it back on so...............its not that bad but I do have people rolling up there windows when I lay into in while along side of them in the city.

i do! it sounds fantastic! i have a dp thoe, dont know if it makes a sound difference but at WOT with a stock straight exhaust it barks like the 6.0s do, i love it, and its not abnoxious like a straight 4" exhaust with out a muff, theres virtually no sound difference in the cab, you get all the turbo sound, even at idol, (i drive with my window open alot), itsounds really good when i have high idol on(1100), theres no performance or mileageg gain that i have seen thoe...

I also ran straight pipe just cut out the cat and muffler put straight pipe in sounds too snappy to me so I tried straight pipe out the side in front of the back tire even though I was warned about how load it was and got a ticket last week so luckily I kept the muffler and pipe and put it back on with no cat I almost forgot how quit it is with the stock exhaust lol

I noticed a difference in fuel economy not much but a little.

I had mine like that for a while... wasn't much louder. Then I had 5" stacks which was loud in the cab but still not TOO loud. Now I've got dual 3" exiting out both sides in front of the rear tires. Quiet in the cab but sounds great outside, especially WOT.

Never gotten any tickets or anything...

finally got to do some exhaust work, all i did was cut the pipe between down pipe and axle and replaced with a straight pipe. reusued all hangers couldn't have been any cheaper and easier to get some good sound out of these awesome 7.3. no down pipe yet.. but still sounds great for being such an easy job!! definetly suggest this to anyone not wanting to do the full exhaust job just yet!!

Thats what I did, you can't go wrong for the price untill you start making big power. I think its a little louder yet with a down pipe but it could just be me.
