Just curious if any off you have sled pulled there truck . A buddy off mine is going to here this week an he wants some tips an pointers. He has a lift an pretty big tires which I think wont be a good combo for pulling. He has an extended cab. Personally i wish he wouldnt do it. His truck is really sharp looking an for a 99 it looks like a brand new one. He just had a new tranny put in it an I would hate to have him break that but hes bound an determined. A couple off his buddies are also pulling so he wants to do it to. So any help an advice from you guys Ill pass the word. Thanks for the help.
I don't know, I've never done it either. My 175,000 mile transmission is stock sans a JWVB, but given the opportunity to pull a sled once, I would do it. Looks kind of fun.
He just has a programmer I think on his truck. Yeh Im sure a weight bracket in front would be helpful for sure. So Chase have you pulled your truck? Any other tips or suggestions welcome. Thanks guys. I should probably post this over in the competition forum but I thought there would be more response here. Thanks again for the help.

JOEL 2003 PSD REG CAB
No I have not, but I got the chance to chat with a couple sled pullers and check out their trucks this spring. Weights up front and ladder bars were the major items I noticed. One truck was a 97 PSD, stock height but larger than stock tires. The other was a 99 PSD, big lift riding on 37's IIRC. I don't know what all he had done on the 99 but he's a regular competitor in sled pulls and it sounds like he does fairly well. I don't think he's a member here but I have seen him on some other forums I frequent. I'll send you a PM with his info if you want.
I've done it don't have to have weights or ladder bars I got a full pull without either. they are definately recommended though. Go in 4lo 2nd gear if it is an auto build up some boost and give her hell. If it hops at all even the slightest get out of it and I mean quick or you will break stuff in a big hurry.
I'm also from nebraska where is the pull at I might pull if it is close.
Put it in 4 lo, let the trans do the work, dont shift manually or you'll miss a gear, ask me i know. Take some air out of the front tires, get them to 30psi or so, and let the rears at 50 if he doesnt have any drivetrain mods. Give'r hell.
i pulled mine and i was in four high and third gear, i have a manual. the whole way down the track i was playing with the red line, the truck wouldnt bog down. and i dont belived the 4wd kicked in when i got to the end my friends said that neither of my front wheels were spining.
Duh, no wonder you were bouncing off the rev limiter, you were spinning the rear tires on top of the dirt wildly as they clawed for traction giving you the feeling of having more power than traction. What did you pull, 150-200 feet? If it was in 4wd you'd probably have to restart again but in low range due to stalling or buy a new clutch at the end of that pull
Well this is just from what I seen the other day at the sled pulls. 2000 F-250 Supercab Short bed lifted up 8ins on 38s with 12in wide wheels only running a super chips with no traction bars and he broke both front and rear drive shafts and broke a lift block that was a rough night for that boy.
Hmmm...my advice would be to not sled pull the truck. I have never done it in mine, even though everyone I know who owns a diesel tries to get me to. There is just too big of a risk of breaking something. I might do it someday, but that will be after a new tranny as I'm pretty sure mine is on its last leg due to all the slipping it is doing. (as an after thought, maybe I should sled pull my truck, and maybe it will blow the tranny, and then just maybe I can get one of those wicked BTS Transmissions. LOL)
