Last night, one of my rear coil springs broke. It broke about 2 and a half coils down, and the lower portion kicked outwards and rubbed the tire. Fortunately, the actual break was on the inside, so there was no protruding coil wire to try to puncture the tire. I unloaded it by jacking it up and pushed the coil inward, then lowered it back down with the spring pushed in so it sort of nested in the upper part in a fashion that held it in and away from the tire. I then drove right home.
Anyway, the point is that need new rear springs. I see that Rock Auto lists a number of options, and what I'd like to know is if there is any functional difference in rear springs for the AWD model compared to the 2WD van. Logic dictates the rear end is uneffected by AWD vs 2WD, so I would think that rear springs should interchange. Are the rates different for the AWD? Also, has anyone found any one brand of spring better than others?
