I recently acquired a 62 uni short bed. It has a 292 Y and a four speed manual. Motor runs, not good though. Has a dropped push rod and other issues. I intend to tear the motor down to see what's up. Might rebuild or would like to swap for another motor, maybe a 390. With that in mind, will a 390 bolt up to the existing bell housing? I just need somewhere to start the process. Thanks to all.
The only thing that will bolt to the 292 bell is another Y block. Build a hot 312 for it...
To mount a FE you will need to purchase a after market engine cross member and a trans mount. Also remove the old bell housing mount as it serves no function when adding the engine and trans mounts. It also if left in place will not allow automatic trans missions to be removed from under the truck.
