Post Rear End Fluid

I am trying to find out if there is a special fluid that goes in the rear end of a 2001 F150 Supercrew. The dealer had to rebuild the rearend in my truck and when I got it back after about 3 weeks it started making noises. I took it back and he told me that it needed special fluid to lube the clutches. He was supposed to put it in but it still makes the noise. Any idea what the special fluid is?

Raed the fluid spec page in your owners manual. I believe that with rear ends that contain synthetic rear end fluid there is also a friction modifier that must be added.

Apparently you have a limited slip differential. There is a specific additive which should be installed. Try driving in figure eights to get things worked in. If, however, its still making noise, take it back as soon as possible; it won't heal!

80W140 synthetic I do believe. Also for limited slip diffs you will need about 6 oz. of friction modifier. You can identify whether you have a limited slip or not by the door tag axle code. A number and a letter such as H9 means limited slip. Two numbers such as 19 means one legger.
