Unhappy problems @ take-off

Hey guys looking for any suggestions, I have a 09 6.4l that has about 1500 miles on it. Yesterday I drove it from Texas to Gulf Shores Al, which from Mobile to Gulf Shores there was a lot of idling, the dpf had done a regen about 75 miles before we arrived. Anyway this morning I got in it and it cranked we drove about 5 miles no problems, we stopped and idled about 1 min when I tried to go the truck died, it cranked tried to drive off again died, cranked it again (no problem cranking) reved it up and it bogged down with only the battery light coming on each time, then cleared up and has driven fine since. This is my first diesel and being 8 hrs. from home I'm a little worried, wondering about any suggestions.

Thanks for any help!!

sounds to me like maybe some bad fuel. Try draining the fuel water separator under the drivers side door.

Are you running any bio diesel? Bio is not good.

Also make sure that you are only putting ULSD fuel in it too.

Nope no bio-diesel, and only ultra low sulfur #2 diesel, and I have only bought diesel from the name brand suppliers (chevron and exxon) I'm only on my 5th tank of fuel but my dad said bad fuel also I'm going to try to drain a little fuel out of the seperator and take a look at it. Thanks for the info.

No codes/check engine light? If it's not fuel, it could be a problem with the rail pressure or fuel pumps. Starts and runs fine but if it can't take a load it sounds like the fuel system can't feed the demand for fuel.

Also could be an air problem. Check that all your fittings from the air filter and the fittings for the turbos and the front most radiator which is the intercooler. I've heard of folks popping off the air hose to the intercooler.

Are there any nice RV parks in Gulf Shores? I might be going there a week from now.

took the truck to a local dealership today everything checked out ok, tech told me the 6.4 is very tempremental to slight fuel issues (trash or whatever) truck is running great, by the way Gulf Shores is great, staying in a cabin though but have seen some nice rv parks, if you come in on a Saturday traffic is thick thats when all the renters come in.

Glad that it is just some bad fuel as we thought.

well the truck did it again a few days later this time it died going down the road eventually got it cranked again drove it to the local dealersip, but this time the check engine light came on and when checked they replaced the crank sensor. Since then we have made it back home and have not had any issues since i guess only time will tell. Just wanted to post the info maybe to help someone in the future.
