using oil thats too heavy--------

I learned the hard way about using the wrong grade of oil in my engine.I used 20W50 in a new engine that should`ve had 5W30 or 10W30 and it messed up the engine.So to you guys on this board,remember to use the grade of motor oil recommended in the owners manual if you have a new vehicle.I suppose 20W50 is fine in a hot climate in a high-mileage engine or engine with looser clearances but not a new tight engine.I know alot of the new ford engines have recommended 5W20.Of course I know you guys probably arent as stupid as I was,but just a friendly reminder to follow the recommendations of the vehicle manufacturer.

How about some details on what the problem is? I can't believe using a 20-50 in motor that is suppose to have 10-30 had immediate failure.

No immediate failure Flash,in fact it still runs good but it has some bearing noise and it uses more oil than it should for only having 55,800 miles.I use 10W30 these days.

I think what happens is the more viscous oil can't get into the smaller clearances, so they wear until it can. Thereafter, if you use thinner oil, it will use some.
