So I want to install an IDM disabling switch. I'm paranoid that it'll get bumped so I want to use an aircraft style safety switch. The ones with the big covers on em.
Typically with a switch like that on is when the cover is open. I want on to be when the cover is closed because I don't want it accidentally bumped. I am completely electrically impaired.
My question is this: What can I do to make it work the way I want it to? Is it as simple as reversing the wires or am I just dreaming.
I was actually planning on using another member's setup. Just use spade connectors and relocate the IDM. Then add a switch into the wires connecting the IDM to its normal spot and you're good to go. Your system looks really nice, but it's far too elaborate for my poor at best electrical skills.
The switches will either be N.O, or N.C. So you want to find a switch that has N.C. contacts with the cover closed. I am sure that they make one but not to sure of where maybe Newark?

Ok. Thanks a ton, man. You know I've got no manner of knowledge as far as electrical goes so thank you very much.
So you want a switch that is closed with the cover closed, and the contacts open when the cover opens.
I have to get you up to speed on this stuff
Yea or I can just flip the little cover around and be good to go. I think... So long as I can flip it around without breaking it.
And I want the IDM to be active when the cover is closed so that I can keep the cover on to prevent accidental bumping so wouldn't that be N.O? Or am I not realizing what normal is?

Where you are getting a snap type switch I don;t know if flipping the cover will make a difference. If you have one of the switches then bring it to RRE and we will do it there.
Usually you hide an anti theft switch, If you are getting a DP then pos 0 is no start. You can unplug the F5 to disable it also

I intend to hide it, but I don't want it to get bumped where I want to hide it. I can always paint the cover so it'll blend into its hiding spot better. My brother's halfway decent with electrical so I'll try to get a hand from him. And one person at RR East (haylee) is the reason I'm putting it in. She says she'll steal it. haha
One of these days I'm going to do Pop's disable mod and then I'll dumb down the install instructions. The install doesn't really look that hard, just a little intimidating. I've put this off because 1) I live in the middle of nowhere, and 2) I've got a distrust for switches that are not just a manual on/off type thing.
The down side to pulling the relay and using the spade connectors is anyone who pulls the dash panel will immediately see what's been done. Maybe Pop can come up with instructions on how to just build one of these http://vandalalert.net/subpage3VandalAlert.htm

Not a huge threat of theft around here. Most places I'm worried about I'm able to keep an eye on the truck through a window so I just want something to give me enough time to get there and straighten them out.
Plus after some family BS I'm extremely theft paranoid so it'll just make me feel better if nothing else. Probably has something to do with dad's truck disappearing from our driveway at 2am, but that was my uncle so that's a different story.
And it'd probably be a crackhead trying to steal it and I don't think they'd have the presence of mind to check the fuse panel.

If your brother dosen't we will do it at RRE

That is a neat gizmo! J-L had a quad that had a remote control that was a kill switch. I wonder if something like that could be incoperated into our trucks
