i believe i have a boost leak when i start my truck up there is a faint smell of diesel in the cab and everyone once in a while when drivin i catch a whiff of diesel, how do i narrow it down as to what it is??? i checked the uppies and didnt see anything but i guess no ones perfect and idea on what else it could be?? i also noticed my truck smokes black a lil more than it use too...
I'd take a look at the donwpipe interface to the turbo, as well as the up-pipe interface to the exhaust manifild. Did you reach back behind the the top of the uppies? Use something white and wipe the pipes.
Most common causes of exhaust drive pressure leaks are the upper flanges of the up-pipes and the little steel tube that goes from the front of the right side exhaust manifold up to the exhaust pressure sender.
It rusts out from the inside out.
Here is a picture of an E series with a 7.3.
Notice the black streaks on the up-pipes and down on the bell housing.
That is exhaust leaking out.
The fix is the bellowed up pipes from International, or maybe Ed offers them too.
I know that he can get you the little steel tube.
