Filter Interchangeability

Wife's Aerostar 3.0 takes a FL400S filter. Most Fords take an FL1A. I compared them and the screw hole is the same and the rubber gasket is nearly the same, one is slightly bigger diameter, but there is mostly overlap. I suspect, given that the metal ring where the rubber gasket seats is wider than the gasket, that the FL1A would work on the 3.0 engine. However, I do think that there is the problem of the hot terminal of the starter being so close that the FL1A, being wider, likely would ground out the terminal, welding the filter to the starter (Yoinks )
