Expy shifting problems

I have a 2000 4x4 that had a shifting problem last summer. It seemed to happen more the harder I was accelerating, and anytime I went up a hill. It would kinda pull to one side (I think it was right) and then it would make a clunking noise and then shift kinda rough, and then it seemed fine. It kinda seemed like it was trying to shift into four wheel drive, and then changed its mind. I was talking to someone on here a while ago and they said that they had the same problem and they unplugged the transfer case shift motor as kind of a band aid, so thats what I did. It worked, and its been fine, but now I need to get it fixed so that I have four wheel drive before winter gets here. Does anybody know what the problem could be? It seems like it was a speed sensor, but I cant remember which one....its been a while. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Have you had the tranny flushed recently? Sounds like it might need it.

If it's not that, it might be the Vehicle speed sensor.

Yeah, I flushed the tranny as soon as it started doing it. If the vehicle speed sensor was going bad wouldnt that mess with the speedometer, also?

You'd think that, but I'll be darned if I can find where the VSS is hooked up to the speedometer in the wiring diagram.

Is your rig 4wd, or auto AWD? I'm wondering if one of the wheel speed sensors is flaking out and causing the transfer case to engage & disengage?

Anybody else?

Well, right now it is 2 wheel drive, but it is supposed to be Auto AWD. That would make sense, cause doesnt this model use the wheel sensors for the auto 4wd system? kind of a "transfers power from the wheel that slips (or thinks is slipping) to the wheel that grips" scenario?

I didn't know if it was per wheel, or really only per axle, but maybe something is binding in the way one of the auto wheel hubs engage and the other is fine, thus causing the pulling. There are folks on here that know this system well, someone will get the details.
