I just flushed my crank case oil on my 03 expy with gunk engine flush. I followed the directions to pour the gunk into a cold engine, idle for 5 minutes then drain and replace oil filter. I did that filled with 5 qts of 5w-20 (thats what the manual says to use) and now the engine sounds like it going to fall out (very loud clanking sound) I have heard that engine is done--but would like other opinions. need to explore all options before attempting engine swap...
but - I know from experience with seafoam that sometimes it takes a while to work it's way out of the system. Have you had any CEL lights, or the engine dying, etc, or does it just sound like *****?
Seafoam and similar products will make the engine really run rough for up to a couple hours and cause weird knocking noises. Might be worth giving it a little more time if it's driveable.
I would never do this. Instead I would change the oil and just drive it for 100 miles or so and then change the oil again.
I don't believe in those motor and transmission flushes either at the shop or do it yourself stuff.
Hopefully, It quiets down soon. It should.
The oil pump is circulating oil if your gauge reads normal or the warning light isn't on.
Second that. Pouring 'engine flush' into a crankcase severly dilutes the oil. Running the engine with diluted oil causes metal to metal contact, that's what you are hearing. Spun bearings, worn rings, who knows, anything is possible. There is no reason to run an engine with diluted oil.
I've always stayed away from these motor flushes.Sometimes they'll release particles that get caught in the oil pickup.
Hope you make out ok,keep us posted.
Tony's got a good point. You might want to do another oil change, but drop the pan and clean out the pickup tube assembly. You'll know as soon as you drop the pan if you loosened anything up as it'll be in the bottom of the pan.
I have done dozens of motor flushes and I can say not once did it ever cause a pickup tube to clog. Nor has it ever thinned the oil out enough to cause a bearing to spin.
I did it once on an 83 T-Bird I had and I didn't fare to well. It had a ton of miles on it.Once I flushed the motor a lifter got hung up.I took the intake off and there was so much old burnt oil under that thing I coudn't believe it,I had to literally scoop it out.Not sure on what the previous owner did to that car.
I finally got the oil pan off ( cross member bolts were tough) anyway the noise I was hearing was apparently caused by a broken timing chain guide, it shattered ( found small pieces in the oil pick up tube). I would like to take the chains off and replace the guides-- my concern is how to determine if the motor is worth repairing. What would I resaonably expect to pay to have a profressional rplace the guides. is it something that could be easy for me to repair---- any insight from those who know will be a great help

If you truly think the Gunk product is to blame, you could check to see if they guarantee their products against such things. If they do and the Gunk is at fault, perhaps you'll end up with a new motor for nothing, or at least for a reduced cost.
