Please help name this part

My 84 6.9 has a part that i do not know what it is.
it is on the drivers side, by the hood hinge.
It has several vacuum lines, and i do not know what it is for.
if any body has pics of the vacuum system on there truck that would be great.
The PO messed the stuff up that the truck would run without.

Sounds like cruise control components to me. Check out a thread I started called "need help figuring out my cruise control" under the 1980-1986 F-series trucks forum. Its on the second page. Someone posted a pic of the cruise stuff. See if the part he is talking about is the one in question. Sorry if you already know that.

Does it have a pull ring on top?

Look anything like this?

Pull ring in yellow circle.

If so, the lines are fuel lines and it is a water seperator.

The bracket just below the yellow circle that goes to the black cansiter is a cruise control actuator.

thanks guys, looks like my water strainer is gone and the truck has CC.
what should the CC actuator be hooked up to?
If i can find another water strainer, what does it hook up to besides the fuel lines ?
what does the inside of the CDR look like?
I do not think mine is right. It does not have a screen or anything in it.

Forget about the water seperator, just use a short length of hard line and a couple of clamps to join the two fuel lines. Then change the fuel filter a bit more often.

Well you really wanna have some water separator somewhere before the IP, what I did to my buddy's '86 is bypass the factory unit and install a complete filter head from a 7.3 engine, it has a water separator at the bottom of the filter housing.

The stock water seperator on the 83 thru 86 trucks was very bad about letting air in the fuel system.

If you have a stock water seperator still inline, it needs to go away.
Fuel supply line from the tank selector valve in, then a line out to the lift pump plus three wires that go to the water in fuel light in the dash.

If it is gone, either swap to a 7.3 style filter/seperator or add an after market water seperator and leave the stock fuel filter.

The water seperator on the 87 and later engines (7.3 style) are not usually a problem.

I did not realize how bad my original 86 seperator was until I removed it from the fuel system.

No problem with the 7.3 style so far.

I eliminated the water seperator from my 7.3L by putting on a NAPA filter that contains it's own seperator because mine was letting air in.
I messed around with it first but never got it to work right.

Napa Actually offers four styles for the 7.3 spin on filters. They offer the factory two piece which I personally hate because the bottom cap was prone to leaking no matter how snug you made it, A solid filter with just the drain, a solid filter with the drain and water in fuel sensor, and a solid filter with no drain or sensor. I use the one with just the drain cause my wiring for the sensor is messed up. They are also cheaper than the two piece as well.
