Hi ! Did someone ever use hydraulic fluid instead of power steering fluid in a power steering circuit? My system will need a lot of oil because i use the pump to tilt my bed and run my hydroBoost.
I really dont see a problem using hydraulic fluid in the power steering system. it is basically the same thing as ATF. I have used hydraulic fluid in the power steering system before.
Another thing you can do is to check what Ford's specification is for the P/S they want you to use in your system, then see if the hyraulic fluid satisfies this. I've been looking at a similar situation - I want to switch out my P/S fluid with a synthetic, so the steering is consistent through all temperature ranges. Ford recommends "Motorcraft Premium P/S fluid, Specification EWS-MC88-whatever". Turns out that the specification is "Type F" fluid - so all I need to do is find a synthetic ATF that satisfies the Type F rating. I e-mailed Mobil to find out if M1 ATF does.
At any rate, make sure everything jives. It's not fun being the guinea pig in these kind of experiments.
