Who makes the best-for-your-dollar long tube headers for an 84 351W? The ones on mine were the cheap $125 things and are now rusted through in a few small holes. I'd like to stay under $300, what do you guys use/suggest? Thanks.
I spent a lot of bacon and bought some Thorley Tri-Y ceramic coated long tube headers from Summit Racing. The Tri-Y design is supposed to better for low end torque than the standard 4- into-1 long tube design. These are real nice headers but they are costly. I have heard of a lot of leaking issues with some of the cheaper brand headers you can buy. My Throley's have been great and still look great after being on my truck for six months. As for performance, I went from the stock exhaust manifolds to the Thorley Tri-Y headers and noticed a BIG improvement in throttle response.
I guess I'll be waiting a little while and putting a little more money into them then. I don't know alot about headers and assumed that the high dollar stuff was mostly in the name. Thanks for the advice guys.
Hedman Elite, have thicker tubes and flanges and come with a thermal coat for around $300 and I've read good things.
You got probs with those Brad??
Headman is the bottom of the barrel for headers, but if the flanges are thick enough and it has a quality coating, inside and out then......... go for it
My Banks stainless torque tubes are 8 years old without one issue. they have 5/8" flanges and no gaskets to blow out.
My L&L headers are 12 years old. Triple nickel plated and have a 1/2" flange and have never blown out a gasket
