spongy running boards

The metal support under my running board is rusted away.
Brackets are still good, the board surface and lights are in great shape. Is there a way to just replace the metal support under the boards? Has anyone done this? Does anyone sell the metal supports? This is a 2000 Excursion 7.3 diesel. Thanks

Just looked at mine. Seems a few pieces of 1" angle iron would take care of it right nicely....

I have a 2000 Ex and the exact same thing happened to my running boards. I checked with ford about just replacing the metal support plate but the price was over $300.00 for both sides. I purchased a used set of running boards off ebay from a gentleman in Florida and got a set that looked brand new, with no rust at all for $195.00. They are pretty easy to remove and install.
