Ive noticed lately at work that there have been more and more bee/wasp/hornets flying around. The ones I'm seeing are about 1.5 to 2 inches long, black with a bluish tint in the wings, and back legs that hang down a fair bit when the thing is flying. Obviously I'd rather not get stung by one of the nasty looking buggers, does anybody know what these things are? I know the description isn't all that great but its the best I can do, since I try not to get close enough to inspect them in great detail.
Thanks for the help.
Many are beneficial and capture insects to feed their young during the pupae stage.
I only know because I'm often disturbing nests in my work. (I like to know what I'm up against)
The Blue Mud Daubers thendrix mentioned are also not dangerous usually. They build little mud tubes the size of your finger on the outside of buildings
