I have pictures in my gallery of the Bronco II tank install. Now I have room behind my rear seat for subs and amps. Although mine is a crew, the frame width is the same, and it is a pretty easy swap--once you pull the bed. I did have to move a crossmember back a few inches to make it work correctly.
I don't know why the Pinto tank was even brought into this thread--Ford trucks have had the gas tank in this same position for years with no troubles. My 79 has the original tank mounted behind the rear axle. The strength of an f-250 frame isn't even a comparison to a Pinto. Mine works great and I have no safety concerns at all.

The 67-72 in cab tank will work. I had one in my Highboy. If I remember correctly a couple of the top holes were off. Also for the bottom mounts I had to make two L tabs to hold the tank. It bolted into the cab floor and a bolt with a small threaded square to pinch the pinch weld on the tank to keep it in place. I cannot remember if this was due to the mounts being different or if I just could not locate a factory bracket set.
