Took the X for her first actual trip with the trailer. The trailer is only 7000# max. I was worried with a minor puking problem it seemed to have just driving around town.
Well we drove about 200 miles in 95* + heat with some climbs and zero issues! It actually handled better with the weight on the hitch. We lowered the hitch 1 notch so the TT was just a little nose down and tried to load the trailer front heavy. What a difference.
I am ready to go anywhere next weekendthe wife wants to find !
We ran at around 214* to 222* depending on the hill. Fan only came on 3 times total. Coolant temp was dropping while still climbing when it came on. At least i know it does work. The outside temp got as high as 97*
I was pushing it tryng to make sure it would take it for our next trip which will be longer.
Yeah...these 6.0L's are like great work horses...they love to pull the weight. Mine runs best while under a load. When it runs kinda ragged, I wish I had something to pull. LOL

Nothing better for these trucks than a good pull to clean things out!
I sure love to here this but I’m not see’ in it. 04 F350 PSD, LB, 4x4, on 35’s and 52,000 miles. 26’ Vortex TH approx. 10,500 dry. Has not broke down on me but seems to struggle on hills. I’m in AZ so we’re not talking big climbs. My fan comes on at the first hill and then loses power. Slows to about 40mph then when finally back to flat road, fan shuts off and things seem fine again. I don’t have gauges, SCT’s, or an exhaust. Didn’t think I needed them when I got the truck. I’ve cleaned the EGR changed fuel filters, air filter and change oil regularly. I’ve also been adding Diesel Klean every tank. Any thoughts? Thx. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> <o> </o>

Did you re-gear for the 35" tires? Go back to stock and you will notice a HUGE difference. You killed the gearing with those tires. Big tires put a signifigant amount of additional load on the entire drive train and brakes. If you use as a tow vehicle I would re-gear rear with 4:30, upgrade to larger brakes and make sure you have an aux tranny cooler.
The factory builds the trucks to THEIR generic specs, for the 'common' user...not necessarily to your specs or needs...
If your issue is not a mechanical issue, I would highly suggest a free flowing exhaust....
Would think that would help tremendously to allow the evacuation of the HOT exhaust gases...
You don't need to go loud, just freer flowing...
A full turbo back exhaust would be the best cure,
but cat back would give u benefits,
of do what I did...
just the fact of removing the 100 lb boat anchor muffler and
replacing it with something like the $50 Walker BTM muffler will lower your temps a LOT...
We're not quite as hot here in North Texus,
but we hear our fan come on so infrequently that it scares us to death when it does
Thanks Guys…Appreciate the imput. I figured the exhaust would be my next move and it’s almost time for new tires so I may down-size to 33’s. Do love the lifted big tire look however. I’m going north next weekend for another camping trip so I’ll post after word. Overall this truck rocks and we’ll keep the fingers crossed for the future. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> <o> </o>
