Who has one and what are your thoughts and experiences? I am considering the Diablosport Predator or the SCT XCal. This will be on my 04. It has no other mods except a K&N filter. I'm looking for a performance upgrade and if gas mileage increases that would be great too.
I have had a few. I ran a Hypertech on a Chevy gas. Also an SCT Xcal2 w/ custom tunes on the 6.0. I will probably be going with Spartan tuning on the 6.4. My brother is running a superchips on his Dmax and a friend is using superchips on his 7.3 (these always work quite well >> definitely not the power leaders but superchips always seem to work well from my experience!).
i do have one now Prairie. it's decent, i wouldn't suggest buying it solely for economic reasons, i never seen much of an increase in mpg, but the difference in power/performance due to changed tranny shifting and whatever else the tuner changed is nice. i bought a S&B CAI a while ago and got custom tunes with it. seems to give it a little more pep. latest mileage test was 20 even, 70/30 highway/city, with the last 50k towing a 6k# travel trailer... i'm very happy!!
I'm running a superchips on my 7.3 and haven't had any trouble. As Warren said they're not the power leader, but also won't eat up your engine. No idea what differences there are with gassers though???? If you keep your foot out of it, you should get a little better mileage. That's a real toughy though.........
That's what I want too, some increased performance like you said Sherm. Maybe it will get rid of the "spongy" feeling that the drive by wire throttle has too.
When they switched to drive by wire the throttle doesn't feel as "peppy" as with a throttle cable.... at least in my opinion. Don't get me wrong there is good power but it is just "different."
Well Collin, i'll thro my Gryphon into the mix as well. I ran it on my 05 f150 and now on my 08. I have custom tunes for it and my truck is bone stock, power wise. I hear what you're saying about the "delay" when the go pedal is pushed. Most programmers will eliminate that, at least the custom tuned abilitity ones will. I had a Hypertech PP3 on my 05 at first. It did seem to help a little, also ran a Superchip on the wifes old 00 expy and it did a little as well. Got the Gryphon and have never been happier. If you're running a full CAI on your 04, you should have something with custom tunes. The tuner will take full advantage of any mods you have. I have no experince with the Diablo. Can't go wrong with the Xcal 2 or 3 either. I got my Gryphon for the display/gauges that come with it. My 05 was an XL trim and didn't have a tach, so that really helped out.
