I own a 1994 F150 with a 4.9L inline six 4x4 with the mazda 4spd w/od. It has 80,000 miles on it and i beleive it's still the original clutch. A few days ago, i noticed that I had to push the clutch pedal futher than normal to disengage so i could shift. And this morning, it disengaded right when it was at the floor and i had to jam it in to first and had trouble all the way through every gear. I added fluid to the clutch cylinder but it did help enough so i could shift. Is the slave bearing shot or what? Has anyone else had trouble with this? Thanks you very much for your input.
Sounds like the problem I had with the same setup in my 1994 4X4. The slave cylinder started leaking around 62000 miles. There is an inspection hole on the driver's side you should be able to look in and see if the cylinder is leaking. The tranny and t-case have to be dropped to replace since the cylinder wraps around the input shaft on the tranny. Ford shops here wanted $800 to $1200 to do the work. Got the parts for under $100 (didn't have to replace clutch disk or pressure plate just the cylinder) and did a couple days labor myself. Truck now has 102000 on it and clutch is still working good.
I think the concentric slave cylinder is a piece of crap! Mine on my '95 F150 went out at about 62,000 miles also. Ford garage repaired under warranty and cost me only 125 bucks. Had lot of trouble with it binding until my mechanic just tore all apart and fixed last week (another 215 bucks). Now works pretty good though minor binding at times, but not enought to affect operation. A shame! My '84 F150 now has 176,000 miles and still has original slave and never even had to bleed it. Why oh why did I sell that truck?--well at least the buyer (my boss) is happy.
