Dana 24
I have never had a Dana 24 apart and was wondering how much of a job is it to put new seals in it and outer bearing?
Also,
anybody know what i could expect to pay for the bearings ans seals?
The case works great but the truck is about to be finished and would like to be able to paint the t-case.It is a red.right?
thanks,

This is a do-able rebuild for the capable home mechanic. I would also recommend you replace the set of needle bearings between the main input and output shafts. I couldn't speculate on the price for all the parts because I did my last rebuild in 1990. BTW-the Dana 24 in my low mileage, all original 67 F250 4wd is chassis black, not red.

I believe i can handle it,i just wanted to see if there was anything importmant i aughta know.I am always buildin motors and stuff so i should be able to do it.
NOW!
I don't want to disclaim or doubt in anyway your original low milage truck has a factory black Dana24.BUT!!
I have found 3 trucks(3)!That were all painted red!My truck was supposed to be original exept the motor.I am the third owner.
It is clearly red and has long since faded, but has plenty left to see. Also it is the smae color of red that outlines the Dana I.D. tag on the drivers side, second truck,...my friend bought a completely restored '69 F250 4x4 for 7k and evrything was restored right back to the funny light blue and white,it was also the same color of red as mine!Identical.Third truck was a '71 Ranger F250 4x4 that was bought by my sisters father in law that was pretty trashed but complete.
NOW!
The reason i say all this as proof of RED but still in my first post ask for the thumbs up for the red?
You made me confused
Cause another long time Ford 4x guy who is older than me and i have a high respect for told me what you did!!!I doubted him on it and showed him my red cases i was telling him about,he didn;t change his story but seamed alittle confused himself!!WHy would all of these trucks(none are red)have the same color t-case?
Like i said i dont doubt yours,i like your truck and it looks original i admit that 100%!
Whats the deal SM?
Am i goin nuts!

Hard to know for sure on the paint. It's entirely possible that these were installed as delivered from Dana with whatever color they happened to be sporting at the time.

And yo are right on the reasons behind the color.I have been around the Car restoration thing for awhile and seen this happen.
Still i'm interested in this.I will keep my eye out for a '68 and older with this case and see if i find any themes to this.
Thanks SM,
