quick engine interchange question

I've been looking for a replacement for the 360 in my 1976 F-150 4X4 with standard tranny and in this weeks local paper there is a 1979 F-250 with a 460 and C6 tranny. What I want to know is if the engine will bolt into my truck and/or if it would bolt to my tranny or would I need the C6 tranny. Thanks all.

The engine should bolt into your truck with the perches from the donor truck complete. The bells are different and a 429/460 engine will not bolt to a FE tranny. The FE is a round top, and the 385 is an extra tall flat top with a 7.5" bolt spread.

Thanks John, in your opinion, what would be the easiest way to get the engine in my truck, would using the donor transmission solve the problem? Would I need to alter the driveline? Thanks

Prolly need to look at another FE or rebuild the one that you have. Converting to another engine series on a 4X4 is much more involved. A fresh 390 would supply a lot of power.

It's your call.
