Help Me Decide

Ok so I had a 2001 Ram 1500 stolen and now its time to replace it.

I am considering a diesel super duty but I am fairly unsure of anything related to diesel's.

So please help educate me.

You should search the forums and read up to at least do some initial research before asking others to do your homework for you.

Also post some more info about how much you're willing to spend, whether or not you'll be towing and how often, how many miles you drive per year, where you live, etc.

There are plenty of guys in this forum that will help but you need to be more specific.

Just to get you started, I would start with how you use the truck, its intended purpose.

For example if you are only going to tow say 5K then a F150 will do it. On the other hand if you are going to do 10K then look at a F250/350.

Same with payload. So here is a link to kinda get you started: https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/...ng/default.asp

Do a search and you will find plenty of "friendly" rivalry in the general Super Duty And Heavy Duty forum.

Do a search for common problems in the specific forums for the 7.3, 6.0 and 6.4. You can also post the question. We'll be happy to answer. There's pro's and con's to anything you get, but a lot will be based on your need, what's available, what condition it's in and what you want to spend. I will tell you that a diesel will cost you more up front (more expensive engine) and the maintenance costs are definitely higher than a gas engine too (my oil changes alone cost me between $70 and $120 depending on what type of oil I use, and I do it myself). In my opinion, if you don't need the grunt of the diesel, you've got to want to own it. They are not cheap to maintain. That, and it sure (over)compensates for other shortcomings!

I would also recommend spending $90 or so on a 3rd party inspection (especially if it's from a private seller) to make sure there's nothing lurking out there that will come back to bite you later (what seems insignificant now can be $$$$ later).

You've made a good choice, the Super Duty is a great truck and you won't be disappointed for making the switch! (this is, of course, a completely unbiased opinion)

Seriously, there's lots of great information on this site, so happy hunting and good luck!
