C-6 Problems
I have a 73 F-100 4WD with a 390. The tranny slips when cold(I live in Minnesota)in forwrds gears and squeels when it grabs.Once warm it does ok going forward.The Tranny binds in reverse and requires about 2000 RPM to get the truck to move and it lurches then(warm or cold).Is the C-6 repairable or does it have to be replaced? Wheres a good place to find a C-6?The local recycler only carries vehicles that are less than 10 years old. I'm not real knowledgable about automatics.My other 2 trucks are manuals(63 and a 64).

C-6 Problems
Try adjusting the bands in your c6. Also try a pint of brake fluid in it. No kidding. It conditions rubber seals. Most leaking seals will leak worse when there cold. If it slips in first then your first/reverse clutch pack piston seals may be leaking. If it binds in reverse, your band servo seals may be leaking. The clutch pack seals will require a complete teardown, but the servo seals can be changed without removing the tranny.
