Just wanted to give you guys a heads up. I have been working on my 79 for a few years now and upgraded my a/c compressor. I used a compressor and brackets from an 84 f-150 302. I used the a/c hose from the 84 and connected it to my 79 line. We took the aluminum block from the compressor and had a charge stem welded on for charging. It was really simple and works well. I will try to get a picture up if you need to see.
The blue cap is the fitting we had put in place. The man drilled the block and welded the fitting. It cost about 20 bucks. The switch is a two wire, we ground one to the compressor and connected the other to the a/c wire for the 79.
This is the a/c hose from the 84.
This line goes over to the coil in front of my radiator.
This is a close up of the line connecting to the original connection on the coil.
I am pretty sure you could do the same if you were to use the brackets from another 80 to 86 with the same motor as a donor.
I know this is not original but it is an original idea that works for me.
This is cool. I'm definitely going to look into this if my York compressor turns out to be no good.
If someone didn't have access to a welder/someone else who could weld, they could use one of these fittings. http://www.nostalgicairparts.com/air...e-port-594.php

I hope it helps someone. When I did this mod I had know idea there was a valve like you posted. Good to know for the future.
I'm trying to do all the research I can so that I'll have A/C in my truck for next summer. Do you have any info on the compressor? Is it an FS6? I'm trying to figure out what trucks or cars that I can get the brackets from. Our local U-Auto-Pull-It is loaded with town cars, grand marquis', and crown vics with 5.0's in them. The only issue I think I may run into is finding a compressor with a V-belt clutch pulley on it. Thanks for any insight.
It all came out of a carburated 1984 f-150. My 83 has the same setup. I used all of the brackets and the power steering pump from the 84. As far as I know the compressor is factory.
Cool thanks, I did some searching and I see the same compressor came on Bronco's, F-series, Bronco II's, Vans, and some Rangers. So that gives me a lot of choices to look at for a compressor and more choices to look at for 5.0 brackets. I need a new power steering pump too, because mine leaks some. So that part works out good too. LOL Thanks again.
