Just bought a 99 v10.. You cannot shift the truck into overdrive. The light on the shifter column is not on...ever. I saw some threads about flashing OD lights but never off. Any ideas.
Does the button on the end of the lever have any effect on the transmission while driving? The button is supposed to CANCEL overdrive as O/D is an otherwise automatic function of the transmission control strategy.
Might be a failed or disconnected wiring harness where the lever joins the column. That's a really common failure. Pull the column shrouds and inspect the harness as it exits the lever's tube.

The button at the end of the lever has no functionality..i.e. it won't do anything.
There are screws on the underside of the column shroud that hold the halves together. Sometimes the switch just goes bad also. The button and light are in the end of shifter. There is a ring that snaps off and allows the OD button to pop out. Check the wires first then go from there.
