My truck is ready for a little "bling" so i decided to add some. On craigs list I found a new in box step bar. Guy only had one. He was supposed to replace a bent one on his truck but sold the truck before he got it done. So he has it for sale for $125. OK, so I call ford and they tell me a set of nerf bars is $428 so i figure I buy the one from craigs for 125 and get the other from the dealer for around 225 and I have a set for $350 plus or minus some sales tax. Right>? Wrong!!! just to be sure I get the guys part number and go to the dealer and ask to buy 1 step bar. He looks it up and says it will be $460. He double checks and says a set of two is $428, and one alone is $460. I figure the parts guy must be goofy so I go home and call another dealer and get the same answer. Only thing I can think of is they think only an insurance claim would need one so they charge double. Comments????
Does not surprise me. Society has figured out how to take advantage of the insurance industry which is why our premiums are so high. The system is very thoroughly studied.
I hope you can find one through one of the supporters here at FTE.
Keep searching for a pair of them. Plenty of people are taking them off. Spread the word around too because you never know who might know of a guy who knows a guy who has a friend that just took his off.
I have a set of Harley step bars but they are for the pre 08 and mount differently.
I would steer clear of the factory chrome step bars that come with the trucks. My truck only had 15,000km's on it and I noticed the chrome was pitting and bubbling. Now with 30,000km on my truck they are really looking ugly and need to be replaced. My dealer said it's not a problem and they made a note in their system early on so I can get a new set on Warranty but I won't be doing the chrome again. Have a buddy that had the same problem and his needed to be replaced after 20,000km. Not sure if we are the only ones or if this is a common problem?? Think I will do like my buddy did and order a set of black ones now, not the tubes but the full running boards as they look half decent and protect the underside of all the doors. Unless someone knows of another option that works and looks better on these trucks?
I clicked on Senix's link for Ed and its no longer there. So I tried to send Ed a PM and his title says "Ed no longer works here". Senix (or anyone else) do you know the story? If Ed is gone are they still a sponsor? Are they still giving FTE members good prices?

I have to agree! I really don't like the look or functionality of the nerf bars... The full length running boards provide a more stable step and provide protection to the side of the truck. If you have a crew cab, you can find brand new OEM running boards on Ebay on the cheap. Just my opinion...
As a follow-up, I currently have the DEE ZEE stainless steel nerf bars on my F350. They were installed by the dealer when I purchased my truck a year ago. They are still like new but as I stated, I don't like the limited step area and no side protection. I've been searching for a set of OEM running boards for the past eight months but with no success because I have a regular cab truck. Like I previously stated, if I had a crew cab I could have made the purchase six times already.
I found an aftermarket company that I think makes a high quality product that is as good (or better) than the OEM running boards at half the price. The company is RunningBoardWarehouse.com. Check them out and let me know what you think! Their pricing is cheaper on Ebay than on their company website.
my 05 Crew Cab had a busted aftermarket Nerf when I picked it up that they promised to replace it. Instead they replaced both with the OEM black Nerf bars what a disappointment They have such a thin coat of paint on them every scratch shows up.
