hello on my 88 f150 i cant get my emiss light to work got all other lights working.. i have a manual for the truck as well as a alldatadiy subscription and they point toward a module that i cant find where they say it is. I'm not even sure what color the wires for it are cant find that info anywhere.
The light should come on and then go out after two-five seconds when the key is turned on. It is also suppose to come on after around 60,000 miles. It is located on the right lower side of the instrument panel by the tach.
I got all the other lights that didn't work by either replacing them or actually putting lights in them.
Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance
Best I can remember, the control module is under the dash near the accelerator pedal. I think my Chilton manual has a sketch of the location.
The control module is only a timer -- it has no diagnostic capability, so it's really not a problem if the module and/or light is unplugged. Does the yellow "Check Engine" light function properly?
yeah to the check engine light works fine as does the engine light...ill look over in that area.... is it directly above or a little to the passenger side of the pedal? I know i saw several modules in that area but i thought those were cruise control and abs ones
My (Extended Useful Life sensor) is located up between the radio and the steering column.
If you can't find it perhaps it never came in your truck. They didn't change the idiot light inserts in the cluster for '88.
Or, perhaps, the PO unplugged and removed it.
I can check the wire colors leading to mine in the morning if you like.
id appreciate if you could let me know what color the wires goin to it are and how many.
I thought i had found it but it was just the box that makes the dinging noise.. the other one i found was cruise and there was one that had two connectors going going to it with a lot of wires
I thought the extended useful life sensor was something different. I just remember the EMISS light timer being pretty easy to reach when lying under the dash.

Maybe, the BS schematic I have calls it that.
Turns on the light every 75k or so.
On my truck it is mounted right above the buzzer and has a 4 wire plug.
About 1" thick and 1 3/4-2" square, it has a small hole in one corner to reset it.
