Help w alternator replacement
Hi, I have a 86 F150 w/ a 300 6. I thought I had an alternator problem and took it off and had it tested. It's fine, but I can't get the stupid thing back on. I can't get it lined up to get the long bolt in the top. Part of my problem is that I am a woman w small hands and not much arm strength and a total novice at this. Are there any trickes for lining it up? Swearing isn't working.

Hi Salli, welcome to FTE. Does your alt have 2 holes? If so, maybe try to line up the bottom hole first, then rotate the alt up until the top bolt will go in. Sorry that its goin rough for you. Hopefully this helps if you didn't get it in already.

I had just replaced my alternator and I found it mucho easier to put the long top bolt in your referring to if the heat shield for the exhaust manifold is moved out of the way.
