hello everyone. Im starting on my 1971 302 engine im going to be putting into my 1959 f100. First off i was going to put in the gt40p heads. but then i heard that the gt40 with out the p are better... so i dont know which to go with. or wat heads would be best... also i was wondering wat else i would have to change with doing that. plus any words of wisdom please.
The Ps flow better but the plug angle makes it to where some shorty headers won't fit. I don't think the difference in flow was all that much though either one would be a decent head. I am not a windsor guy so other will know more than me.

hey thank u for the info anything right now is good im just trying to soak in all the info i can
Like said before, the P heads need a P specific header to fit. It is possible to flow nearly as much with the stock D series heads with some porting and cleaning work on the inner castings.
Yes the P heads make life a little more difficult, but the big problem with plug clearance is with equal length shorty headers, with longtubes or regular shorties it's not nearly as bad. One guy here even posted pics of his truck with GT40P's and longtubes, he said all he had to do was clearance the header slightly around 1 or 2 plugs and use wires with 90 deg boots. The P heads will provide more compression and flow better than the regular GT40 so there are some benefits to working out the header fitment.
For what you'll end up paying for a set of prepped GT40 heads you'd be halfway or more to a pair of aftermarket heads that will run circles around them, FWIW.
