The 65 king pins differ from 66 by .125" where the retaining bolt is drilled on the 65 beams verses the 66 up beams. They are the same diameter and ream clearance.

That's why i say buy the pins for the beams you have.....If it happens to be two differing beams due to crash damage or replacement then buy two sets to obtain two correct kingpins... Welcome to almost fifty year old iron where nothing may or may not be stock. It is what makes this hobby fun....

Bill, cs65 & John,

Well, i rolled-off the turnip truck when i comes to working on trucks so, i'm just figuring out the easiest way to get my rig to where i want it to be. I have to say, you guys are one hell of a wealth of information. Each of you three is awfully knowledgeable ,but I'm astounded at how much information Bill seems to pull out of his *ss! Do you have access to all the dealer manuals and order catlogues? How the hell do you come up with all these random part numbers?

I paid $50 for this set of spindles and I have no idea how much of my time has been spent trying to figure out what the heck they are or how to get king pins and the rest of an undercarriage to be compatible. I just talked to a guy that has a '65 in good running shape in my area that already has disc power brakes and (he says)a tight power steering. He wants $950 for it and from the pics it looks to be in pretty darn straight shape. I'm going to take a look at it and see if i can use it as a donor truck for both conversions.

See my signature, kiddo...I didn't start doing this yesterday.

I was a Ford partsman for 35 years, and have all the Ford parts catalogs.

I can look up any car/truck part number from 1928 thru 2002 and also search for obsolete parts on two websites, then post the info.

I'm a car/truck collector/historian and over the past 50 + years, have owned over 80 FoMoCo vehicles from a 1936 Lincoln Zephyr V12 to a 2008 Edge.

Pickups bought new: 1965 F100 / 1968 F250 Ranger / 1971 F100 Ranger XLT / 1979 F150 Lariat / 1988 F150 Lariat / 1992 F150 Lariat / 2004 F150 Lariat.

The huge difference with no disrespect, Bill can give you part numbers, Dave and I know how to make parts work.

I would have been a riot around here 10-12 years back when we started pushing power steering and disc brakes upgrades from 73-79 donors. We were well into it by the time Bill came along.

I am a interior trim carpenter by trade and have worked for years with molding that was run from a different supplier, or machine in the same plant and had to make it fit. We order crown molding by inch size not by part number. Sometimes you gotta make it fit.

John, no disrespect taken.

If I had found FTE in 1999 instead of 2004, how many posts would I have now?

How much more help would I have been able to pass along?

I was on the net beginning in 1996, but was on other sites.

And...while I may have come along well after you did, how many other members of FTE can consistantly come up with this type of info?

How many other FTE members (out of 500,000 or so), have any Ford parts experience?

No man is an island, John. FTE will be around after both of us are gone.

Your thing is...as I see it, you could care less about part numbers and assorted jazz.

You have mechanical aptitude, I don't.

Let me ask you this: Since 1999, how many New Old Stock obsolete Ford parts have you found for members?

I've found 1000's.

How many Ford part or ID numbers have you typed?

I've typed 10's of 1000's.

You just love stirring the pot. Can't we just get along without all this BS?

Ask your buddy Dave what I'm like, as we have met several times. I'm not the SOB some ppl think...and...you prolly aren't either.

John
I never said any such thing!

Someone asked how I can do all this, and I told him.

You are nothing but a whining, miserable old SOB, in-famous here on FTE for your sarcastic comments.

Guys - both of you are my friends!
Bill - Your parts knowledge has helped me figure out bolt up solutions for others - and you didn't even know it more than half the time.

John - You graciously fed me delicious dead yard bird in your home, and I think fondly of your daughter's milk drinking contest quite frequently. I also knew and got involved when you were down and nearly out too.

The enemy is outside.
Quit shootin' at each other!

Ok, I took the plunge; I bought the dame thing. It stops on a dime, just like a modern car. The steering is sweeeeeet! No play at all...at an speed I can take my hands off the wheel it tracks dead straight. Tight circles in a parking lot were great, smooth and quiet. No play in the wheels when i jacked it up.

I took it up to redhead steering (before i bought it) and had Harvey look over the Bendix (Yes, Bendix steering box). He said it's one of the tighter boxes he'd come across and that it had no play whatsoever. He would buy the box from me if i didn't want it. It's not leaking and his feedback was it would likely last a long time as is. The truck has the pump, pulleys and everything i need to swap over to my rig. In addition, it has a nice upgraded front end with disc brakes that I'm going to swap over as well. There a bunch of other things i need to steal: windows for both sides, inside door panels, etc. It has a 9" drop out rear end and very smooth C4. Question for you guys: both my warranty tag and this new truck's warranty tag show the same transmission type "G". My old manual shows that transmission to be the FMX cast iron. BUT the new truck has a C4. Does that mean a C4 will fit on my 352?

On a different note.....Bill and John are ridiculous to get into a pissing match over who brings more value to the table. As a complete newbie...you both have helped me out quite a bit in just the past month. You both bring completely different experience to the table so, shake hands and get over it.

Cs65, I'll try to post pics to my gallery: murr's '65 f100
