seafoam ??

Ok, im sorry about another question. I changed the oil in my truck today. The mechanic told me to run some seafoam threw the vac hose on the brake booster..

is this really ok? Anything besides seafoam ok? Anything thing special I need to do. Or watch out for? I would like to try this before I leave for the road again..

Thanks guys.

Why did your mechanic tell you to run seafoam thru the brake booster hose? Maybe it's just me, but I've never heard of and I can't think of any reason why this would need to be done.

It Works.

I have used this method before. My father (prof. mech 40+ years) recommended it to help with a stuck EGR. His direction was to remove the vac hose from the brake booster and pour the seafoam into the hose until you stall the engine, reconnect the vac house and pour the rest of the seafoam in the gas tank. Be careful when you do this, because you will get a rather large could of smoke when you start the vehicle again, so you may want to do this away from open windows/doors to your house/garage. Basically, you are cleaning carbon out of both the air inlet (through the vac hose ) and through the fuel side (gas tank). Hopefully this helps.

It's a common thing to do on used cars. It does help tremendously. I did it to my '78 F150, the difference was unbelievable!

I prefer to run it to the PCV rather than the brake booster.

it is not just used on used vehicles.

actually a new vehicle is used after it drives off the lot so i guess technically it is used on used vehicles.

noticed how i used used as many times as i could have used it?

I guess I've just never had to deal with a stuck EGR valve, so that probably explains why I've never heard of it.

I thought you were supposed to put 1/3 in the intake, through the vacuum hose or carb/throttle body, 1/3 in the oil, 1/3 in the gas.

Ok i've used the seafoam in the gas tank but it's never had it run anywhere else. exactly how do you run it through the brake booster vac line? i'd like to do it see if it helps my truck, and also does it affect anything in a bad way.

thanks
Kyle

With the truck running, pull the vac hose from the brake booster. Start pouring in the seafoam, which the vac hose will basically suck it right in. As I stated earlier, you will want to be careful where you do this since you will create a cloud of smoke, but other than that, I am not aware of any bad effects. Hopefully it will work for your truck, I know it has helped all my vehicles that I have tried it on.

Seafoam helps clean internal engine components. The vacuum from the engine will pull it directly into the intake and flood the engine as seen on the attached video. From what I can tell, it will not have an affect on the EGR. I have had excellent results on my truck from Seafoam and highly reccommend it if you have a rough running vehicle.

There you go. Flawless logic.

Reminds me of the %^& scene in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.
