NP435 transmission cases

I have a 1979 F150 4WD truck with a NP435 and a NP205 transfer case. The NP435 case is cracked. Is it possible to successfully weld it? If not, can I use a case from any NP435, or will I have to use a Ford specific case, or even a Ford specific, 4WD specific case? Thanks in advance for any input.

i had a transfer case adapter welded. it works fine. cost 50.00!! as a matter of fact, before i had it welded, it always seeped oil, now it doesn't.

I know that Dodge used a different transmission-bellhousing bolt pattern than Ford, so the trans case should come out of a Ford.

It depends on how bad the crack is when deciding on whether or not to repair by welding...
