Well I got a 2000 F250 XLT 4x4 7.3 with 112,000 on her. Really clean truck, I'll have to get a pic or two... Anywho just a couple questions for you guys out there..... when I turn hard in either direction, sometimes it's like there is something binding in the rear end? feels like it has lockers or something? doubt it does but,any ideas? also got this odor from what may have been hot brakes..... no idea from me... another thing, i got a new air box put in, stock of course, and on the filter gauge i guess I'd call it, is there always a harness hooked up to it or does it matter? It has the hook up but no harness attached....just curious.
Thanks a lot guys for this post and my last, I feel like I'm learning already...

Hey Mike. I will take a stab at a couple of your questions. The rear end sounds like it may need friction modifier added or the fluid changed would probably be a better idea since you don't know when it was done last I would guess. Do you always get the odor or just sometimes? Need more info please. I have not had that on mine for a long time but I do not remember wiring to the filter minder. I could be wrong there.
The 00 had no wiring to the filter minder, someone plopped in a filter minder out of a newer truck. It's not worth worrying about, and you should ditch the stock setup for a 6637 anyways No idea on the smell... did you eat a spicy chimichanga for dinner last night? And Jay nailed it on the rear end shudder.
If you are smelling brakes, you might look at your caliper slide pins. You may have one hanging up. That filter minder is useless if you keep on top of maintenance on your truck. I think the filter minder is for people that only open the hood of their truck once a year.
You can pick up the friction modifier at Ford in 4oz bottles. I would add 1/2 bottle at a time. Add some then drive around for awhile. If the chatter persists, add the other 1/2 bottle. You want to add enough to quiet down the LSD, but too much and it turns into a LGD (Limited Grip Differential).
Thanks a lot guys, I figured that the filter reader was a 'dumby' gauge anywho, I just noticed some trucks have a harness and others don't... As for the rear end I will definitely have to try that additive. Thanks for all the advice!!! And no I was not smelling my own wind ha ha.

Welcome again Mike, for piece of mind like Jay suggested, I would change out the diffential fluid, for less than 50 bucks you can have piece of mind knowing everythings in there's ok. 4 quarts(you'll have an ounch or two left,EST.) of 75-140 synthetic rear gear oil, some black Permatex sealant, 5.oz Ford Friction modifier and you'll be good.
Thanks I'm deifinitely going to have to check her out... That a common sealant to locate? ...Also I changed my fuel filter as well, thank god as the old one was pretttty bad... As I cruise through the forms I see a lot of people talking bout HPOP o-rings and such. I may have some seepage but hard to tell now with all the deezel I dribbled...but is that a bear to remove on your own? Remember I am just an 18yr old kid with minimal tools ha ha... If all else fails its got a good warranty ( I think) so I guess I could let the dealer handle it...but I need to learn sometime right?
